Milan’s Moment to Shine

Salone del Mobile attracts visitors from around the world.

Often described as the design world’s answer to Fashion Week, Salone del Mobile transforms the city into a showcase of creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation. Established in 1961, Salone del Mobile has grown into the most prestigious furniture fair in the world, attracting visitors from across the globe.

The fair is a launchpad for fresh design ideas, with everything from sleek, minimalist furniture to dramatic, statement pieces taking centre stage. Major luxury brands like Versace bring their distinctive flair to the fair, while niche designers unveil some of the most original and daring concepts.

Versace Home collections often mirror the brand’s signature aesthetic—plush fabrics, bold patterns, and decadent gold finishes. Meanwhile, designers like Ukrainian architect Serhii Makhno have showcased pieces that blend traditional motifs with contemporary design. Dutch designer Sabine Marcelis has presented striking works that play with light and materials like resin and glass, delivering minimalist designs with powerful visual impact.

The event itself is structured into curated sections. The ‘Classic’ area highlights enduring designs that blend heritage with elegance, while the ‘Design’ zone is dedicated to cutting-edge concepts and innovative ideas. The ‘Euroluce’ lighting exhibition is a crowd favourite, showcasing designs that highlight the power of lighting in shaping interior spaces.

Beyond the main fairground, Milan’s streets buzz with energy during the ‘Fuorisalone.’ Historic buildings, contemporary galleries, and even cafes host installations and exhibits that push creative boundaries. In 2024, filmmaker David Lynch brought his immersive installation ‘A Thinking Room’ to Fuorisalone, adding a layer of cinematic mystery to the design landscape.

Salone del Mobile isn’t just a furniture fair – it’s a cultural event that defines upcoming trends and inspires new ideas. For designers, architects, and design enthusiasts alike, it’s an unmissable experience where the future of interiors is revealed in grand style.
