The accolade comes on the back of an extensive two-phase multi-million-pound refurbishment, driven by the desire to retain the elegance and beauty of the country hotel and estate while cementing its position as one of Northern England’s premier destination hotels. Work began in the 2020 winter lockdown to include not only refurbishment of Jacobean style hotel building, but also upgrades to the accompanying leisure and golf facilities. The spectacular Great Hall, which is at the very heart of the hotel, has been restored to its former glory, with careful attention given to ensuring the preservation of its Gothic-style architecture while introducing the contemporary elements you would expect from a luxury hotel.
Unique dining experience
Guest bedrooms have been upgraded with additional rooms added as part of the refurbishment project, all featuring Emperor-sized beds and luxurious soft furnishings, as well as marble bathrooms, walk-in showers, and free-standing baths. Guests can also enjoy a number of new and upgraded dining experiences including 5-star cuisine at the new Emerald Restaurant and the opportunity to dine under the stars at the remodelled Cloisters Bar and Restaurant, which now includes a spectacular glass ceiling to provide truly unique dining experience.
Upgraded leisure facilities
Changes extend to the hotel’s spa, The Retreat, which has seen investment in both the equipment and pool, while the estate’s championship golf course and facilities have benefitted from upgrades to the course, driving range and the Keepers Lodge clubhouse, which is due to reopen this Summer after its refurbishment.
